Jaguar

  • Feeding and Diet: Carnivore. Rivers provide prey such as fish, turtles, or caimans (small, alligator-like animals). Larger animals such as deer, peccaries, capybaras, and tapirs.

    Average life span in the wild: 12 to 15 years

  • Size: Head and body 1.5 to 1.8 m; tail, 27.5 70 to 91 cm

  • Weight: 45 to 113 kg

  • Habitat: Rain forests, savannahs, and swamps, but at the northern end of its territory it may enter scrub country and even deserts. It requires fresh water source near habitat as the Jaguar is a good swimmer.

  • Predators: Jaguars have no animal predators, however, they are hunted for their attractive fur. Ranchers sometimes kill them as they kill their livestock.
