Golden Orb Spider

habitat: dry open forests, woodland, coastal sand dune shrublands, mangroves

Golden orb spiders normally feed on flies, beetles, locusts, moths, but occasionally their webs trap small birds or bats and the spider will wrap them and feed upon them.

The predators of the golden orb spider include birds, and wasps. The wasps land on the web of the spider, and by imitating a struggling insect's vibrations, lure the spider to the edge of its web. After this is done, the wasps then carry the spider away to be paralysed and stored as live food for their young.

lifespan: 1 year
